| Gao is capital of the ancient
kingdom of the Askyas and one of the oldest cities in
west Africa. It is an important market townfor all the
major ethnic groups, Soghrai, Peul,Bambara, Touareg, and
Moor. There will be a better chance to explore the market
(great jewellery so we are told!) on the way back and
to see the Dune Rose and the river. |
