Djenne’s magnificent Grande Mosque is the largest mud structure in the world. It was built, in 1905 near the market place(the market occur every monday), on the site of the earlier one of 1280. It is symmetrical, has a flat roof 75 metres square, and wooden beams, part of the structure beneath, stick out of the sides. Each year after the rainy season the Mosque is re-surfaced. Djenne is surrounded by an old wall with six doors, the city is created between 1043 and 1250 AD.
